A digital business card for private tutors
Tutoring work travels by one parent telling another. That conversation happens without you in the room, so the only part you control is how easy you made it to repeat.
Your name gets passed on and written down wrong
A parent says there is someone good who does maths, and reads a number off their phone to another parent who is also holding a child’s bag. The number gets a digit wrong, or the message never gets sent, and you never learn that it happened. Meanwhile what you teach has changed: a new exam board, a level you have stopped taking, two evenings that are no longer free.
On the doorstep at the end of a lesson
The lesson finishes, the parent appears to pay or to ask how it went, and that short conversation at the door is when they think of the friend whose child is struggling. One scan there and they have something in their phone to forward that evening, with your subjects and levels attached, so they do not have to explain what you do.
What it does for private tutors
Shareable without sharing your number
A parent can forward the card link into a class group chat. The people who are interested open it and contact you, the rest simply do not, and your mobile number has not been passed around a group of strangers.
Subjects and availability, kept honest
Edit what you teach, which levels and exam boards, and whether you have slots left. A card that says you are full this term is more useful than one that produces enquiries you have to turn down.
Enquiries that say what is actually needed
Turn on the form and add a message field so a parent can give the year group, the subject and when the exam is. You can reply already knowing whether it is something you take on.
At a kitchen table or on screen
Point the card at a booking page or a video call link, and change where it points when your teaching moves between in person and online.
Questions private tutors ask
- Should I put my home address on the card?
- There is no need to. Most tutors list the areas they cover or say that lessons are online, and leave the exact address for a parent they have already spoken to.
- Should students contact me directly through the form?
- That is your decision and your wording. Many tutors state on the card that enquiries about anyone under eighteen should come from a parent or guardian, and the form is yours to label that way.
- How do parents share it if they are not technical?
- They send the link, in whatever app they already use. There is nothing to install at either end, and the person receiving it taps it like any other link.
