A digital business card for accountants

Almost nobody chooses an accountant from an advert. They ask someone they trust who does theirs. Everything about how you present yourself should make that one sentence easier to repeat.

A recommendation has to survive being repeated

Your client tells a friend over coffee that you sorted out their year end. The friend has nothing to act on but a half-remembered practice name, and by the time they are at a keyboard the moment has gone. A paper card does not help either, because your client only has the one, and they are not handing over the card that has their own accountant on it.

Across the desk at the year end meeting

The accounts are signed, the client is relieved, and this is when they mention that a business partner or a sibling is in a mess with theirs. You do not need to give them a card. You need to give them something they can forward from their phone that evening while they still remember, which is a link, and which arrives intact rather than as a name spelled from memory.

What it does for accountants

1

Forwards without being handed over

The card is a link, so a client can pass it to as many people as they like without giving away their own copy. Each person who opens it saves your details straight into their phone.

2

Say what you actually take on

Self assessment, limited company accounts, payroll, VAT, a particular sector. Write it on the card and change it when your capacity or your focus changes, which it does every season.

3

An enquiry with enough in it to price

Turn on the form and add a message field, so the first contact says what kind of return it is and when the year end falls. That saves a whole round of questions before you can say yes or no.

4

Survives a merger or a new designation

Practice names change, letters after your name change, and the office moves. Edit once and everyone holding the card sees it, with nothing reprinted and no stale stationery in circulation.

Questions accountants ask

Can clients send documents or figures through the form?
They should not, and the card should say so. The form takes a name, a contact route and a short message. Anything with financial or personal detail in it belongs in whatever secure portal your practice already uses.
Can enquiries go into our practice software?
Contacts can be exported as a CSV at any time, and can be posted to another system by webhook if you configure one. There is no prebuilt integration with a specific practice suite.
Is this a card for the firm or for me?
For a sole practitioner there is no difference. In a larger practice, individual cards tend to work better, because a referral is made to a person and the new client wants to reach that person rather than a switchboard.
