How to share a digital business card over AirDrop, email or text message

Copy your card link and send it. A link works over AirDrop, email, SMS and any messaging app, and opens a page the recipient can save in one tap. AirDrop is fastest in the same room, and a text is the most dependable when you do not know what phone the other person uses.

Takes: A minute

Get your card link first

Every method below sends the same thing, the web address of your card. VCardForever does not produce a Wallet pass, so the link is what you share. Open your card in the dashboard and use the copy link button, or scan your own code and copy the address from the browser.

  1. 1

    Save the link somewhere quick

Pin it in your notes app, paste it into a saved message to yourself, or set a text replacement so a short phrase expands to the link. If you have to dig for it, you will not use it.

  2. 2

Open the card on your own phone once

Check it loads and the save button works before you rely on it. A card that fails the first time someone taps it is hard to recover from.

AirDrop, iPhone to iPhone

  1. 3

Open the card in Safari and tap Share

The share icon is the square with an arrow. Both phones need Bluetooth and Wi-Fi on, and the recipient needs AirDrop set to receive from Everyone for ten minutes, or to Contacts Only if they already have you saved.

  2. 4

Choose the person's name under AirDrop

They get a prompt to accept. When they do, the card opens in their browser.

  3. 5

Expect it to fail with Android users

AirDrop works only between Apple devices. Some recent Android phones can receive through Quick Share, but do not count on it. Switch to a text or a code.

Text message and messaging apps

  1. 6

Paste the link with your name

A bare link from an unknown number looks like spam. Write who you are and where you met, then the link.

  2. 7

Send it by whatever they already use

SMS reaches any phone. WhatsApp, Messenger and similar apps work if you already talk there.

  3. 8

Do not send it as a screenshot

A picture of the card cannot be saved to contacts and its link cannot be tapped. Always send the link itself.

Email

  1. 9

Put the link in the body, not as an attachment

Attachments get filtered and a link is one tap. The best place for it permanently is your email signature, which is covered in its own guide.

  2. 10

Use a subject line that explains itself

Your name and the event or topic. It helps the message get found a week later when the recipient wants your details.

When it does not arrive

  1. 11

The link opened a blank page

The recipient has no signal or is on a captive wifi page that blocks the web. Ask them to try on mobile data.

  2. 12

The message went to spam or a filtered folder

First messages from unknown numbers and emails with only a link are the usual victims. Add a sentence of context and ask them to reply so it moves to the main inbox.

  3. 13

    They saved nothing

Opening a card page does not save you to their phone. They have to tap the save button. Mention it when you hand it over.

Common questions

Can I add my card to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet?

Not with VCardForever. It shares a link and a QR code, not a Wallet pass. The home screen guide shows how to put the card on a phone's home screen as an icon instead.

Does the recipient need an app?

No. The card is a web page and opens in any browser. They only need an app to scan a code, and the built-in camera does that.

Which method is best at an event?

A code on your phone or a printed card is fastest when people are standing in front of you. Use text or email for follow-ups afterwards, with a line reminding them where you met.
